JOB OPPORTUNITIES
**Haut-Lac International Bilingual School** is a private French–English bilingual school located in **St-Légier, Vaud, Switzerland.**
We educate students from age 3 to 18 in a leading Swiss IB World School environment, where academic ambition, bilingual learning and personal development are all part of the same story.
**Science Laboratory Technician**
*Saint-Légier, Vaud · 40–50% · Permanent contract · Starting January 2027*
**About this role**
Haut-Lac International Bilingual School is looking for a motivated, meticulous and well-organised science laboratory technician to join the Science department of our secondary school from January 2027.
You will work closely with our science teachers, providing the technical and practical support behind the teaching of biology, chemistry and physics. You will also prepare and organise the laboratories and keep them running smoothly, in line with safety standards.
**Main responsibilities**
The role includes:
- preparing, setting up and putting away the equipment, chemicals, solutions and apparatus needed for practical work
- helping teachers prepare experiments in biology, chemistry and physics
- keeping the laboratories and prep rooms clean, tidy, well organised and safe
- making sure chemicals and scientific equipment are stored, labelled and handled correctly
- managing stock and consumables, and placing the orders the labs need
- carrying out routine maintenance and simple repairs on equipment
- disposing of chemicals and biological material in line with the applicable regulations
- keeping safety documentation up to date and contributing to risk assessments
- supporting the preparation of complex practicals and student-led experimental projects
- playing an active part in maintaining high standards of health and safety
**What we're looking for**
Essential requirements:
- a recognised scientific or laboratory qualification: a Federal VET Diploma (CFC) as a laboratory technician, a Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, physics or a related field, or an equivalent qualification
- hands-on laboratory experience, and confidence preparing experiments and scientific equipment
- sound knowledge of laboratory health and safety rules, particularly for handling, storing and disposing of chemicals
- excellent organisational skills, rigour and attention to detail
- the ability to work independently and manage priorities
- a strong team spirit and the ability to work closely with teachers
- a **good command of English and/or French**, enough to work comfortably in a bilingual school
Experience in a school, university or other educational setting would be an advantage, as would familiarity with the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) and/or Diploma Programme (DP).
**Terms**
- Working time: 50%, annualised, spread over four days
- Six weeks' paid holiday, plus six to seven weeks of unpaid leave, taken during the school holidays
- Start date: January 2027
- Place of work: Haut-Lac International Bilingual School, Saint-Légier
