Paul Bauer - Class of 2016 (2008-2016)

Paul Bauer spent eight years at Haut-Lac, where he developed many of the skills he now uses.

After graduating, Paul pursued a Masters (MEng) in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at the University of Warwick. His hard work earned him the Head of School Award, and he was named the top student in his cohort by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE).

Following his studies, Paul gained hands-on experience as an engineer with Warwick Manufacturing Group’s SME Group. He worked with UK small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to improve operations through lean practices, value engineering, continuous improvement, and digital transformation. His contributions supported the High Value Manufacturing Catapult’s mission to innovate and boost efficiency in UK manufacturing.

Driven by a passion for manufacturing and industrial systems, Paul is now pursuing a PhD at the University of Cambridge’s Institute for Manufacturing. His research focuses on supply chain design, exploring modular approaches that could revolutionise medicine production through mass customisation and personalisation.

Paul’s fondest memories at Haut-Lac include participating in sports competitions like football and athletics, snowboarding with a unique mixed ski and snowboard group, and cultural trips to places such as Berlin.

His advice to current Haut-Lac students is:
  • Don’t give up on your dream universities. If you don’t get in right away, try again for a master’s, PhD, or MBA. Passion and persistence will open doors.
  • Embrace extracurricular activities! Whether it’s sports, music, teaching or another hobby, these experiences can become your greatest strengths.
